Security Guard Courses at Shootsafe Academy will help you obtain and maintain a valid California Guard Card. To obtain your Guard Card for the first time, the State requires completing and passing a 40-hour training course and a cleared background check.
The State will issue your Guard Card after your initial 8 hours of training and a successful background check before the additional classes are taken. The State requires 8 hours of mandatory course and 8 hours of elective by day 30. In addition, the State requires 8 additional hours of mandatory and 8 additional hours of elective course work by day 180. This meets the State’s requirement of 40 hours of training in order to obtain and maintain your Guard Card. Whether classes are taken in three segments (8 hr., 16 hr., 16 hr.), or all 40 hours within the first 30 days, a certificate will be issued upon completion of each required course.
If you are a working guard and need to renew your Guard Card, you must complete an 8-hour refresher course. The 8-hour continuing education requirement must be completed before you can renew your Guard Card if you are past your 2nd year of employment. (LIVE-SCAN NOT REQUIRED FOR RENEWAL)
